Waterfront Brewery’s owners talk trivia!

Posted: April 19, 2021

In a follow-up to our introduction to Waterfront Brewery, in Key West, we spoke with owners George and Gwen Esbensen about bringing on trivia just over a year earlier.

Despite challenges with Covid, the brewery’s trivia night has thrived, in part due to the support of the owners…not only do they provide trivia prizes and have great drink specials (along with Deep Eddy’s sponsorship), they play every week! When in Key West, plan your Wednesday night around Catch The Mania’s pub quiz!

Trivia at Waterfront Brewery in Key West!

In a virtual pub quiz blackout across the country, Waterfront Brewery in Key West is filling the seats with mask-wearing locals and tourists! Arming the night with great prizes from the brewery, and some help from Deep Eddy vodka (which, by the way, both have libations on special for almost giveaway prices during trivia).

Get your table early in the sizable game room, with seats surrounded by classic entertainment like Space Invaders and foosball, and get ready to answer tons of trivia questions in an effort to gather all the prizes you can. If you’re on top after the last question of the night, you might be smart enough to win a gift card to the brewery, and potentially a 4-pack of their canned beer!

Only the wisest and stupidest of men never change – Confucius

Catch The Mania’s “30 In 30” Online Trivia

Well, change has been thrust upon us, whether we wanted to be wise or not…and, as insightful as Confucius may have been, Billy Crystal’s “change is such hard work” is easier to relate to.

So, with that, the crew here at Catch The Mania has made some changes…we could either wait out the uncertain future by continuing business as usual, or move forward on what we do best: provide much-needed entertainment for these trying times. The small spark of an idea, providing 30 minutes of trivia folks can play at home, has grown a bit. In our first three weeks of “30 In 30“, we’ve included guest hosts Phil Wills (Bar Specialist, appearing on Bar Rescue), Johnny Trutor (Jeopardy champion), Amber LeMay (Vermont’s favorite Drag Queen), as well as several other guest hosts to lighten the load of the day, and give a needed diversion.

Join us, Monday and Wednesday nights for the foreseeable future, to enjoy some family fun, or “call” in your friends (FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, Houseparty) to play some trivia. We’ll also have some pop-up theme nights, so check back with our Facebook page often!

Steve Jobs said, “Things don’t have to change the world to be important.” We may not be changing the world, but hopefully making it a tiny fraction better.

Circus Cafe Realizes Value!

“For years we were thinking about adding Trivia to Circus Cafe’s lineup of fun events designed to supplement our lunch, dinner and bar business. However, it was not until we came across Damon Brink and Catch The Mania that we made the decision to go forward. It was Damon’s enthusiasm and professionalism that sold us! We are thrilled to offer Trivia to our regular customers in Saratoga Springs and the surrounding area; and also very pleased to have broadened our existing customer base with this excellent addition! In summary, so glad we “caught the mania!”

How Can I Play The Embedded Music and Videos?

Posted: March 16, 2012

Catch The Mania is a Power Point presentation.  It is designed to play across multiple formats and computers.  However some computers have software that is older or hasn’t been updated and therefore doesn’t play the media files that are embedded in the presentation.  If you have one of these set ups have no fear, there is a dynamic presentation designed specifically for you, read about it here.

If you aren’t able to play music and video files but want to here are some suggestions, each suggestion differs between Mac and PC.

For a PC

You can download a Free Version of Power Point Viewer this will allow you to take advantage of the full range of dynamic media contained in each presentation.  The download is quick, it’s free and you don’t have to have Power Point to use it.

You can upgrade your Power Point to 2010, this costs some money but you get a pretty powerful set of tools including Word, Excel and more included with a fully functioning version of Power Point.

For a Mac

Upgrade to Power Point 2010 for Mac here or  Keynote 2009 here.  Power Point is more costly because you can’t buy it separately but you also get Word and Excel along with it.  Keynote is great because you can buy it on it’s own it’s significantly cheaper and it works great with a Mac.

With Catch The Mania you can present either a Media or Non-Media show for your trivia night.  Both are designed to be dynamic and engaging, of course we Love music so we think you’re getting the full effect of our product when you are able to play the embedded music and video files, but it is not necessary for your success!

What Game File Do I Download From The Member Page?

Posted: March 16, 2012

Catch The Mania is designed to play across a wide range of formats and computer types.  However there are some computers that have older software programs that don’t allow for the playing of media in the presentation.  If you have one of these set ups you will be able to play the slide show but you won’t hear music or see video when those rounds come up.  Have no fear!

Inside the Catch The Mania Member page there are two different types of GAME files, “Media” and “No Media”.  Each file is exactly the same except the “No Media” file is designed with some different questions to replace the music or videos.  The beauty is that the answers to each are the same, you only need one answer sheet.  There are also assorted support and marketing files in the form of PDFs, Jpegs and more.  For this article we are focusing on the Game files

So if you have a computer with software that can play music and video files you download the “Media” files and if you have a computer with software that cannot play music and video files you download the “No Media” files.  Like we said above you only need to download one of the answer sheets because they are the same for each file.

If you want to know what software supports playing music and video files click here.
