Hot Springs Village’s podcast “Inside Out” took a moment to recognize one of Catch The Mania’s trivia hosts in a recent offering. David Grim, appropriately referenced in this video as “a man with many hats”, talks about his Catch The Mania trivia performances and his karaoke shows in Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. The popularity of these shows is a testament to “Crazy Dave”, and his love for entertaining. With a crossover following of trivia aficionados and karaoke stars alike, Dave makes sure there is something fun to do almost every night of the week at Fat Jack’s and The Beehive.
Catch The Mania is lucky to have such a charismatic and high-quality host, bringing trivia challenges to his area of Arkansas every week!Think you know everything? Go prove it to Dave on Mondays or Thursdays!
With the success of Catch The Mania’s trivia at Sugarloaf Key Florida’s KOA, it was suggested by the General Manager Wendy Woodman that we attend the annual convention…this year’s celebrating KOA’s 60th anniversary. Orange County Convention Center (a behemoth of a building the size of a large airport terminal) was host to a multitude of KOA owners, managers, and vendors. The familial feeling was evident from the onset, with friendly faces welcoming us to the event.
Though unrelated to trivia, we brought a Photo Booth to capture the fun and smiling faces of those who visited us. An enjoyable few days!
The end of the road in your RV is the left-hand turn off of Route 1 heading south, less than 20 miles from Key West. Recently rebuilt after Hurricane Irma did her damage, one of the most-impressive KOA Kampgrounds has taken shape on the shores of a channel that connects the Atlantic with the Gulf of Mexico. In an effort to add to their entertainment lineup, Catch The Mania brought in trivia on Thursday evenings for both the campers and locals.
Wendy Woodman, General Manager, loves the entertainment variety with Catch The Mania trivia’s offering.
Cody Yarbrough, running trivia night for the second month at a local hangout, arrives and sets up inside tonight as it’s one of those cold Texas nights. The sleet that starts to pelt the roof an hour later confirms that the outdoor patio would have been a bit harsh for tonight’s trivia crowd.
The High Dive is running a trivia competition of sorts, where team scores are added each week, with an overall, cumulative winner. Monster Energy drink prizes cover a table, and the regular teams spill in.h
Cody is getting busier and busier with Yarbrough Entertainment, branching out and running trivia and karaoke on other nights. Filling these slower nights with steady gigs are a recipe for a winning plate – Cody wins, with extra work, the bar wins with more patrons on a slower night, the patrons love a night to get together with friends.
Dyan Drewes became familiar with the success of Catch The Mania trivia at Sugarloaf Tiki Bar, but post-pandemic found herself as bar manager up Route 1 at Looe Key.
The fresh salt breeze skirts through the welcoming thatched roof-covered bar, the ample seating with few empty spots to sit down with a local draft beer…better get there early for Tuesday trivia if you want a good spot. The happy hour specials feature ridiculously fair prices, as the trivia questions begin to flow at 6:30. Dyan, the host, sits in front of the projection screen and challenges the crowd with question after question, adding to the alluring vibe of great music and a fun-loving crowd.
After just six months of a consistent Catch The Mania trivia night, Beef ‘O’ Brady’s is welcoming a steady crowd of regulars each week. Hear what owner, bartender, and all-around hard worker Lisa has to say about trivia night, and some kind words from happy patrons. Host Jason Rodriguez also gives his perspective on the night. If you are in the Tampa area, join in on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm!
In a follow-up to our introduction to Waterfront Brewery, in Key West, we spoke with owners George and Gwen Esbensen about bringing on trivia just over a year earlier.
Despite challenges with Covid, the brewery’s trivia night has thrived, in part due to the support of the owners…not only do they provide trivia prizes and have great drink specials (along with Deep Eddy’s sponsorship), they play every week! When in Key West, plan your Wednesday night around Catch The Mania’s pub quiz!
In a virtual pub quiz blackout across the country, Waterfront Brewery in Key West is filling the seats with mask-wearing locals and tourists! Arming the night with great prizes from the brewery, and some help from Deep Eddy vodka (which, by the way, both have libations on special for almost giveaway prices during trivia).
Get your table early in the sizable game room, with seats surrounded by classic entertainment like Space Invaders and foosball, and get ready to answer tons of trivia questions in an effort to gather all the prizes you can. If you’re on top after the last question of the night, you might be smart enough to win a gift card to the brewery, and potentially a 4-pack of their canned beer!
Well, change has been thrust upon us, whether we wanted to be wise or not…and, as insightful as Confucius may have been, Billy Crystal’s “change is such hard work” is easier to relate to.
So, with that, the crew here at Catch The Mania has made some changes…we could either wait out the uncertain future by continuing business as usual, or move forward on what we do best: provide much-needed entertainment for these trying times. The small spark of an idea, providing 30 minutes of trivia folks can play at home, has grown a bit. In our first three weeks of “30 In 30“, we’ve included guest hosts Phil Wills (Bar Specialist, appearing on Bar Rescue), Johnny Trutor (Jeopardy champion), Amber LeMay (Vermont’s favorite Drag Queen), as well as several other guest hosts to lighten the load of the day, and give a needed diversion.
Join us, Monday and Wednesday nights for the foreseeable future, to enjoy some family fun, or “call” in your friends (FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, Houseparty) to play some trivia. We’ll also have some pop-up theme nights, so check back with our Facebook page often!
Steve Jobs said, “Things don’t have to change the world to be important.” We may not be changing the world, but hopefully making it a tiny fraction better.
